This quote is valid until the date shown. Work starts once the quote is accepted in writing.

How to write a quote

  1. Add your details and the client’s. Use the client contact who will approve the price.
  2. Number the quote and set a Valid until date, usually 14 to 30 days.
  3. Break the work into lines the client can recognise: deliverables, phases or hours.
  4. Apply any discount and tax, so the total is the figure the client will actually pay.
  5. State your terms in the notes: what’s included, what isn’t, and how to accept.
  6. Download the PDF and send it with a short covering email.

The tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Angelwood or saved on a server.

Quote, estimate or proposal?

  • Quote: a fixed price for defined work. Once accepted, you’re expected to deliver for that price.
  • Estimate: your best guess at the cost. The final bill can change if the work changes, so say so.
  • Proposal: a fuller document that explains the approach, timeline and terms as well as the price. Use a statement of work to define the scope.

Worked example

A consultant quotes a two-day discovery workshop at £1,200 a day plus £350 for the written report, with no VAT because they aren’t registered. The quote total is £2,750, valid for 30 days, with a note that travel outside London is charged at cost.

DO IT IN ANGELWOOD

GOOD QUESTIONS

Questions people ask.

Talk to us
What’s the difference between a quote and an estimate?

A quote is a fixed price for defined work. An estimate is an approximate cost that may change. If the scope isn’t settled, send an estimate and say what could change it.

How long should a quote be valid for?

Most service businesses use 14 to 30 days. A shorter window protects you if your costs or availability change.

Can I turn the quote into an invoice?

Yes. Open the invoice generator and use the same lines. In Angelwood, clients can accept estimates online before you invoice.

Is my data stored anywhere?

Only in your own browser, so you can come back to the draft. Nothing is sent to Angelwood.
