BILLING RATES

The right rate.
On every hour.

Set cost and bill rates for each team member, billing types for each project and default rates for each client, in one place.

Rates are on every plan. Editing rates is limited to managers.

Your rate card in one page

The Rates page works like a rate card for the whole firm. It has three parts: team member rates (a cost rate and a bill rate per hour, each with a start date), projects (a billing type of hourly, fixed fee, retainer or non-billable, with a project hourly rate or fee) and client default rates.

Which rate applies

Each hour uses the most specific billing rate available: a rate set on the time entry itself, then the project’s rate, then the team member’s bill rate, then the client’s default rate. The person’s cost rate is saved on each new time entry so profitability reports can show labour cost.

Set a cost rate after people have already logged time? Choose Apply to existing time to cost their earlier entries from the rate’s start date.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Questions about this feature.

Talk to us
What’s the difference between a cost rate and a bill rate?

The bill rate is what you charge the client per hour. The cost rate is what that hour costs you, used to work out profit and margin.

Which rate is used if several are set?

The most specific: the time entry, then the project, then the team member, then the client default.

Can I change a rate without rewriting history?

Yes. Rates have start dates. End the old rate and add a new one; past entries keep the cost rate they were saved with unless you apply the new one to existing time.
